“The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”

“The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” – Saint Augustine

This is a quote that I had not heard about until I met my very good friend Wayne Nugent, Co-Owner of WorldVentures.  I have been very blessed to come across WorldVentures through Marc Accetta being their Director of Training.  I’ve seen amazing places throughout the world.

As I am sitting here writing this, my girlfriend and I just got back from an amazing trip out to Ocho Rios, Jamaica.  She had never visited any of the islands in the Carribbean Sea nor Jamaica so it was such a thrill for me to be able to give her that first gift of experiencing walking along the sea and putting her feet in the sand and just creating those great memories for her and for both of us.

I still remember when I was small my dad getting me this book that had all these pictures of islands and various places throughout the world and just explaining a bit about them and why go there.  Growing up we really didn’t take that many vaccations, most vacations were that of visiting family throughout Texas.  And it wasn’t until after I graduated high school that I got to do a bit more traveling while playing with the bands I was with.  I still remember my first trip to Vegas and just being amazed that everyone was always awake 24/7 or so it seemed to me, I honestly thought that the Lion at MGM Grand was made of 24 karat gold.  LOL, but I feel truly blessed that my parents always would let me dream big and never put limitations on how crazy I would think.  I was never told that I couldn’t do anything.  Not that I was spoiled and given everything I ever asked for, but they taught me that I could acquire whatever I wanted through hard work and persistence.  I feel blessed to have such great parents in my life and through their actions also show me that anything was possible.   I want to go back and look for that book…because I feel that everything happens for a reason.  God placed me right where I needed to be at the exact time in order to experience life at its fullest.   I just wanted to write a quick blog to let everyone know that EVERYONE should travel and create great memories with your friends, families and those that are special in your life…Here’s some videos of the places I’ve been lucky enough to visit….make sure and check out my YouTube page at http://www.youtube.com/monicoperez.  Let me know some other places that you’ve visited to that perhaps I haven’t gotten a chance to visit.  I’d love to know!

Let me know what are some of your favorite places that you’ve been to…

How travel makes you smarter, sexier and more productive

How travel makes you smarter, sexier and more productive – Lonely Planet blog.

Original Post by  Robert Reid – author

Why do we travel? Just a hunch here: because it’s fun. Plus we have to occasionally pay a visit to Uncle Greg in Minneapolis or attend that conference on soybean research your boss makes you go to every year. But, at the same time, travel can pay off in many ways, and science backs it up.

Here are the four main ways that travel can improve your life:

1. Travel makes you younger

David Eagleman, recently profiled as ‘The Possibilian’ in the New Yorker, studies time perception at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and has made many experiments regarding how life-threatening moments feel slowed down.

Travel to new places has always felt like stretched time to me too; a week in Guatemala seems to last as long as three weeks in the Outer Banks – in a good way. So I asked him, for my recent CNN piece on travel to new destinations, whether science can back up my gut reaction.

Eagleman told me adults’ sense of time is more ‘compressed’ than children’s, but that travel to new or ‘novel’ places – the more exotic, the better – is an equalizer of sorts. ‘It essentially puts you, neurally, in the same position as when you were a child.’

Travel: the fountain of youth! And, with its perceived time-stretching possibilities, a life-saver even if you only take a week or two for vacation this summer.

2. Travel makes you smarter

It’s an old cliché that travel broadens your mind. I’d scoff if it weren’t true. A recent psychological study at Indiana University found students had broader answers when they thought the study was imported from Greece, rather than homegrown. What the researchers call ‘psychological distance’ – what we might call ‘armchair travel’ – increases your creativity. A recent review of the psychological distance concept, suggests that travel, or even planning travel and imagining yourself in an unfamiliar and distant location, might not just improve creativity but self-awareness as well.

William Maddux, an American social psychologist, studies how those who live abroad come home more creative too. He told me by phone that ‘immersion’ in a place is key – one of the reasons, he says, he’s working in France.

‘It all depends on someone’s mindset when traveling’, he said. ‘Are they really open to it? If not, and all they do is sit and watch TV, it probably won’t make them more creative… And you don’t necessarily have to cross a border either. What’s more similar New York and Toronto, or New York and Savannah?’

3. Travel makes you more productive

Americans’ relative lack of holiday time is sometimes defended as a strong ‘work ethic’, and a reason the country is so productive. But is it?

This fun Businessweek slideshow shows how many countries’ economic output rivals the US, with far less work time. France, for example, takes off 60% more days off (40 compared to the USA’s 25), and records 98% GDP per hour worked. While the USA remains the world’s top ‘competitive’ country, runner-up, Switzerland, nearly matches the US mark with a week more vacation time.

Some argue taking extended time is even better. In a TED Video on taking sabbaticals, graphic-designer Stefan Sagmeister illustrates how he plans a one-year break from work to ‘experiment’ every seven years simply to generate new ideas.

4. Travel makes you sexier

It’s not just a tan you return with, but stories. According to one recent ItsJustLunch.com survey, the best first-date conversation topic was hobbies, with travel following second. Somehow manage to combine the two, and brace yourself Romeo. Just be sure to have exchanged your Paraguayan guaraní into dollars before the bill arrives.

And if travel has already done its job by making you more creative, youthful, self-aware and productive, you’re bound to be looking pretty good out there.

10 Tips for Fall Fitness from Livestrong.com

I’ve recently started using an online website at www.livestrong.com in order to keep on top of my calorie intake, as well as my Blood Pressure stats, and it’s been working great.  It has tons of everyday restaurants and foods that anyone would eat and allows you to see how much fat/protein/carbs you’re having on a daily basis.  It also lets you put in your exercise routines and allows you to just track everything in a easy and convenient way.  I’ve also started enjoying the site so much that I started looking around at some of the articles and found this one interesting.  Feel free to check it out and add your own tips on how you’ve managed to stay fit throughout the summer/autumn and into the wintertime.  Have a great day and enjoy the article by Rian Landers.

Autumn is a transitional time of year. The leaves on the trees change, it becomes darker earlier, and the temperatures cool down. It is a favorite time of year for many people. However, these same changes can also lead to stress for individuals who tend to fall off the health and fitness wagon during the transition. There are many enjoyable opportunities to remain fit, or even begin a fitness program in the fall that can work for everyone. Planning for seasonal changes, finding support from group exercise and embracing events and activities that the season has to offer are key factors in staying fit through the transition.

Take Advantage of Autumn Activities

Autumn group events like pumpkin picking, corn mazes, haunted trails, and building leaf piles are active options that can also be fun bonding experiences for family and friends. Organize a weekend trip or local get together with an autumn theme and plan to be active.

Get Involved in Community Events

With the fall season comes many holiday themed local fun runs and events. Look in the newspaper for Halloween runs, turkey trots and reindeer romps. According to a 1991 summary report by ERIC Digest, a specific goal such as a race to train for increases adherence to an exercise program. Signing up with friends or family will hold you accountable for completing the training.

Head to the Trails

Fall is one of the most beautiful times of year for getting outside. Grab a friend and find some local parks or trails to walk, run or ride a bike and take in the view of changing leaves.

Dress for the Weather

When weather gets cooler, it can deter people from going outside to workout. This problem can be mediated by wearing wind-shielding clothing and dressing in layers. Proper attire and accessories (hats, gloves, etc.) that cut down on bulk but still allow for warmth make outdoor fitness more enjoyable as the chill of fall approaches

Drink Water

Stay hydrated even when the temperatures cool down. People often feel less thirsty when it is not hot outside, but staying hydrated is just as important in the fall as it is when the sun a blazing down. When fall rolls around, remember to stay on top of your fluid intake to help with both exercise recovery and appetite control.

Drink Tea

Drink more tea to warm up for the cooler temperatures. Green tea and black tea contain antioxidants that help ward off diseases during flu season so you can remain healthy and active as the season shifts.

Avoid Holiday Candy

According to the National Institutes of Health, on average, non-obese adults gain about a pound a year around the holidays. In addition to creating unhealthy habits, accumulation of this weight over time can lead to obesity. Be sure to pack lots of healthy snacks to munch on throughout the day to help deter you from grazing on sweets that pop up in the office, at home or at holiday parties.

Turn Fall Chores into a Workout

Raking leaves or gardening can burn around 150 calories every 30 minutes. Turn these chores into a game by setting small, achievable goals to help pass time and burn away fat.

Exercise Early in the Day

Try to work out in the morning or during the day. With the time changing and it becoming darker earlier, it can feel as if it is later in the day than it really is. This can make people more tired than usual. Getting into a routine of working out early will guarantee the workout gets done and still allow time in the afternoons and evenings to relax.

Vary Activities

As the weather cools down and summer ends, it can become difficult to stay motivated. Trying a variety of different activities and varying workouts, will help keep a fresh spin on exercise and allow for confidence to build within a wide range of activities.

We’ve just kicked off an amazing weekend in Las Vegas, NV with one of my good friends Gabe Shirey.  I met Gabe about 4 years ago at one of the week long training programs that Marc Accetta does called, Journey Beyond the Edge.  Gabe was an attendee at this seminar looking for an opportunity to just recreate himself and build a successful life.  Ever since then we’ve stayed friends and communicate via email, or online and here and there in person.  Recently I ran into Gabe in Los Angeles, CA at a Networking Seminar and WOW, has he recreated himself in a huge way.  For any of you that have attended Journey in the past, and know about the goal section.  Gabe still to this day has his very first goal cards that he created 4 years ago at Journey and carries them around with him and swears that he owes a lot of his recreation and success to Marc Accetta and that goal setting section during Journey.  It’s so awesome to see someone that has gone through one of Marc’s seminars and has been able to apply the skills and tools that Marc teaches and uses them to create massive success in their lives and now Gabe will turn around and give that back and create success in other lives out there.

Here’s a brief summary of Gabe’s company and what they are doing.  Make sure you stay in the loop and remember Gabe Shirey’s name he’s definitely on up and coming super star that has great things happening in life and business.

NBC pulls Tony Robbins reality show!

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – After two episodes, NBC is feeling motivated to yank Tony Robbins’ reality show from its summer schedule.

Effective next week, NBC will air repeats of game show “Minute to Win It” in the Tuesday-night slot instead of “Breakthrough with Tony Robbins.”

Tony Robbins

While critics gave Robbins’ show props for trying to help real people solve tough challenges, audiences didn’t show up; the most recent episode generating only 2.8 million viewers.

It’s not yet clear if the remaining four episodes will be available online.

JUST ANOTHER CLEAR INDICATION THAT ALL OF THESE BIG WIG TV STATIONS ARE MORE CONCERNED WITH VIEWERS AND NUMBERS AND MONEY INSTEAD OF ENHANCING PEOPLE’S LIVES!

A HUGE thumbs down to NBC and it’s execs for this decision!

What’s sad in all this is that even after going to NBC’s website I couldn’t find any of the episodes.  I found them on HULU.com. http://www.hulu.com/breakthrough-with-tony-robbins

Make sure you visit HULU and search Tony Robbins Breakthrough and watch this incredible show with REAL people, creating REAL changes in their lives.

I meet Olympic Gold Medal Athlete Dan O’Brien…

I never thought that I’d get an opportunity to meet an Olympic Gold Medal Athlete but earlier today I had a great opportunity to meet Dan O’Brien.

Dan O’Brien is a former American decathlete. He was deemed one of the best decathlon athletes of the 1990s, winning an Olympic gold medal after winning three consecutive world titles.

O’Brien won the Olympic gold medal for decathlon at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and also won gold medals at the 1991, 1993, and 1995 World Championships in Athletics.

Meeting an Olympic Gold Medalist

In 1992 he set a world record of 8,891 points, and appeared with U.S. rival Dave Johnson in a popular TV advertising campaign for Reebok. The series of commercials, entitled “Dan & Dave,” were meant to build interest in Reebok and the decathletes, culminating in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

O’Brien has been a resident of the Phoenix area since 1997. He owns Gold Medal Acceleration, a gym in Scottsdale, is a volunteer track coach at ASU, and does commentary for track and field events on television.

The Power of One Podcast in 2010 by Marc Accetta

This year personal success coach and mentor , Marc Accetta will be hosting a Podcast show called, The Power of One. Marc came up with the concept for the show a few months ago when he came across a song of the same name, by Israel Houghton, at our local church led by Mike and Kathy Hayes, Covenant Church. “I have studied human nature and the science of success for over twenty years and realize that most of the greatest innovations we have ever enjoyed came from the imagination of one person”, states Marc.  While it ultimately takes teamwork to make the dream truly work, most great teams are lead by a dynamic individual who has a vision.

Our show will highlight amazing leaders from virtually every walk of life that have changed the world in which they lived by their contributions. While the people featured will all have in common the fact that they are ultra high achievers, they will also amaze you with the fact that they have come from such diverse backgrounds. Then again, while their differences will be vast, the similarities that created their successes and greatness will be nearly identical.

The formula for success is really the same no matter what you are attempting to do. As the series unfolds, you will definitely find this to be true. The power of what one idea can do is amazing. The power of what one dream can do is amazing. The power of what one person can do is amazing.  We cannot wait to get started bringing these amazing stories to all of you. Some of the people will be very famous and others will not, but they will all be inspiring.

Marc says, “Years ago I needed to be inspired, I still need it. Much of my inspiration, then and now, comes from true stories of average people who had a dream, and who had the guts to make those dreams come true. I will share the stories that have inspired me. I think it will surprise you that many of histories greatest heroes were at one time broke and unsure of themselves. Some of them were depressed and considered themselves failures. The point is that there are thousands of more stories out there and I would love to help inspire one or two of them.”

If you believe in your dreams and are brave enough to follow through on them, the possibilities are endless. Tune into our show and share it with all of your friends. 2010 is the beginning of a new decade; a decade that will bring many quantum leaps in our society. Someone will be responsible for those leaps. Join our show and either hear about them or become inspired to create one of them. In 2010 come to understand the true power of one!

Happy New Year from Monico Perez – 2010

As there are only a couple of hours left in this great year of 2009, I feel very blessed to have shared so many great memories with so many wonderful people.  I have God to thank for so many blessings and insights that he has shown me along this past year.  We should all remember that all of the troubles and mistakes that we might of experienced during our life should be not just shrugged off as being a bad year or have a unlucky year.  So many people look at the year that they have just left behind and say, “Well 2009 just wasn’t my year!”  Don’t be one of those individuals, learn from the mistakes and struggles you came across in this past year and make sure that you do not repeat them in 2010.  My wish is for everyone to share a Happy and Safe New Year with your loved ones, with those people that share a special part in your heart and those that build you up and make you feel stronger, superior and just in a positive frame of mind.  I’ll be sharing my New Year’s Festivities in the great city of Austin, TX  home of the 2010 Rose Bowl Bound Texas Longhorns.  I’ll be sharing this great night with my amazing girlfriend, Melinda Soto, some of my buddies from Austin, brother and cousin.   I wish everyone the best out of 2010 and cannot wait to see what memories we create out there….What are some goals you are looking at tackling in 2010?

There is still time in 2009 to overcome those obstacles!

What fears do you face on a dailly basis?  What anxiety seems to come back over and over in your life?  Don’t you think it’s time to take a step towards that fear, towards that anxiety and face it straight on.  Here in this video Marc Accetta, Personal Success Coach, speaks to those people that are just surviving those people that at the beginning of 2009 were thinking it would be the worst economic time of their life.  For most individuals things didn’t get as bad as they thought but they simply settled for what life was offering them, they weren’t doing anything out of the ordinary and they weren’t getting anything out of the ordinary.  There’s still time left in 2009 to make it the best year of your life!  Don’t sit back and settle and watch others make 2009 their best year ever…step up and create a dynasty from your life.
