So SUMMER is finally over!

Well although it might not feel like it in Texas, but yes Summer is finally coming to an end.  It has been an incredible summer for myself and I actually wrote this blog to hear from you, what was your favorite memory of the summer of 2011?

It’s always great to see what everyone writes for some people it’s traveling outside or inside the US.  For others it’s a special weekend with family where everyone got together last minute and had a great time.  Maybe you just stayed at home and enjoyed relaxing at the pool on weekends!  Who knows?  I remember when I was young, I would be counting the days until school ended and summer break started.  I had family in Odessa, TX & Stephenville, TX which if you’ve been anywhere in West Texas in the summer it’s pretty much the one place in the world you DO NOT want to visit.  But it wasn’t Del Rio, so in my mind I was getting away from home.  But now looking back on it, it wasn’t necessarily the fact that I was traveling to Odessa or Stephenville which got me excited but who I was going to be hanging out with during that time, my cousins!  It was just so much fun to hang out and do fun stuff with my cousins, whether it was hanging out and laughing or just goofing off those memories will stay with me forever!  So with that being said, I don’t think that it really matters where you go to during summers or down time, however what does matter is who you’re with.

I’ve been blessed this summer to hang out with great friends in the US, outside of the US and also just here at home!  For me one of the tope highlights of my summer was taking my girlfriend Melinda on her first DreamTrip with WorldVenturesAnd you might be saying her first Dreamtrip, I always see you traveling here and there together, and yes we do travel a lot but several of those times its for work.  It could be a training seminar that we’re doing in Vegas or New York, Palm Springs, Orlando which are also beautiful destination spots.  And we do manage to take time out and have fun during those trips, it’s still work.  But this summer I was able to take her to Jamaica, which was amazing!  We checked in and got to our suite and we were directly in front of the ocean on the 2nd floor, literally every morning we’d wake up and see the sun rise and the sun set right off of our balcony and for me, just seeing her HUGE smile everyday and tell me she never wanted to leave there, well that was at the top of my magical moment during the summer!

Then another highlight that was pretty cool was visiting Athens for the first time, being able to see all of the historical places like the Colosseum and Parthenon was really cool!  Here’s a video that my buddy Dave Ulloa made of the trip to Greece at a club there called Villa Mercedes, which is the hottest club and most poplular club in all of Greece!  The night before we were able to check out David Guetta which was DJ’ing there and it was again a first and something that I’ll never forget!

In mid-May we went out to LA for a week for a convention where several public speakers, authors and networkers meet called SANG.  It was cool because we stayed right down in the middle of Hollywood, we were literally about 2 minutes from the Roosevelt Hotel, so each night we would head out to all of the LA hotspots that were there, but we closed off that trip with a weekend cruise down to Ensenada Mexico, which was also a cool little treat.  We were taken around Venice Beach by my good friend Mike Putman and hit several hotspots and just amazing places right in front of the beach.  It was so much fun!   Another highlight for me this summer was going down to Del Rio and hanging out with some of my family that I had not seen since I was about 10 years old!

So in closing, I’d like to know what some of your favorite memories were of the summer!  Maybe you did something I didn’t do but I want to do!  Share your favorite memory but like a good friend once had told me is that life is all about creating memories.  Memories with those people that are close to you, those people that share your same wants and that help you want more out of life!

It’s time you get out…

I remember when we used to have gigs, it would always be exciting to be sitting behind the drums right before that first song and we just started doing a 45 minute set and just jam out.  Heck I still get excited whenever I travel to different cities and there’s live bands playing and I happen to get a wild hair and jump up on stage with them.  Just that bit of adrenaline that pumps through you is an awesome feeling.  However when I go to a concert as a fan it’s just as fun and great.  I’ve been lucky enough to see some of the worlds best musicians and bands out there and I still have many more on my bucket list.  I came across this article and it just made sense and I figured I would share it with all my friends that read my blog.

People go to music concerts for many reasons. Some people watch concerts to support their favorite music idols, others go to concerts to have fun with friends, while others watch concerts to enjoy music.
Here’s Melinda and I at our first KISS concert it was a blast, but we’ve been lucky enough to watch U2 in OKC, Bruce Springsteen out in Philly, Bon Jovi, Keith Urban, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Pat Green and several others.
But for whatever reason it is, many studies show that going to concerts is actually good for your health.

Here are some reasons why:

1. The feeling of excitement that a concert brings causes a sudden rush of adrenalin that is good for the heart.
2. This activity will also allow one to burn calories which can be a good form of physical exercise for the day.
3. Live music gives an uplifting feeling that is good for physical and emotional well being.
4. Live concerts allow one to perspire which leads to faster metabolism.
5. Going to concerts is a healthy alternative to spending an evening at home watching television.
6. Watching your favorite music icon, live, can bring a sense of confidence that can boost your overall well being.
7. Live concerts are social gatherings that can promote positive energy resulting to overall good health and great physical outlook.
8. Listening to live music can enhance your senses, resulting to more alert and active physical condition.
9. Being within a live concert promotes confidence that can lead to a healthier approach in life.
10. Live music can bring about a healthy balance that is good for the body and mind.

Does this information surprise you?  How often do you go to live concerts?

I usually try to go to a live music concert at least 2 or 3 times a year, not only do I love the live music side of things being a musician and all, but also the excitement during the show is awesome.  I am pretty lucky to have my cousin which is Co-Partner of Tickets4AnyEvent.com, I know what you’re thinking…”Is he really plugging his cousins company right now?” LOL..yep I sure am…and don’t worry I am not getting any sort of benefits from it, no free tickets, no preference on upcoming shows or anything.  She’s just been very helpful whenever I want to go to concerts and I like using her company for concerts.  I think what I like most is that for someone with my personality where I sometimes don’t plan on going to a concert until the last minute, they’re able to accomodate me.  I’ve literally heard that Tim McGraw is going to be in town at 5pm and I know my girlfriend loves him so as a surprise to her, I texted one of the reps that work at T4AE.com while we were finishing dinner, we then went home I told her to get ready because I was surprising her with tickets to the concert and I printed out the tickets which were awesome seats and the concert started at 7:30pm.  That’s pretty DAMN good last minute service if you ask me…No Scalpers, No Waiting in Line, No bidding wars online!

So if you are looking for tickets check out her site www.Tickets4AnyEvent.com let them know I sent ya and YOU’LL actually get a discount.  But even if you don’t visit her site get out and go to a concert! Have Fun! Enjoy LIFE!

“The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”

“The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” – Saint Augustine

This is a quote that I had not heard about until I met my very good friend Wayne Nugent, Co-Owner of WorldVentures.  I have been very blessed to come across WorldVentures through Marc Accetta being their Director of Training.  I’ve seen amazing places throughout the world.

As I am sitting here writing this, my girlfriend and I just got back from an amazing trip out to Ocho Rios, Jamaica.  She had never visited any of the islands in the Carribbean Sea nor Jamaica so it was such a thrill for me to be able to give her that first gift of experiencing walking along the sea and putting her feet in the sand and just creating those great memories for her and for both of us.

I still remember when I was small my dad getting me this book that had all these pictures of islands and various places throughout the world and just explaining a bit about them and why go there.  Growing up we really didn’t take that many vaccations, most vacations were that of visiting family throughout Texas.  And it wasn’t until after I graduated high school that I got to do a bit more traveling while playing with the bands I was with.  I still remember my first trip to Vegas and just being amazed that everyone was always awake 24/7 or so it seemed to me, I honestly thought that the Lion at MGM Grand was made of 24 karat gold.  LOL, but I feel truly blessed that my parents always would let me dream big and never put limitations on how crazy I would think.  I was never told that I couldn’t do anything.  Not that I was spoiled and given everything I ever asked for, but they taught me that I could acquire whatever I wanted through hard work and persistence.  I feel blessed to have such great parents in my life and through their actions also show me that anything was possible.   I want to go back and look for that book…because I feel that everything happens for a reason.  God placed me right where I needed to be at the exact time in order to experience life at its fullest.   I just wanted to write a quick blog to let everyone know that EVERYONE should travel and create great memories with your friends, families and those that are special in your life…Here’s some videos of the places I’ve been lucky enough to visit….make sure and check out my YouTube page at http://www.youtube.com/monicoperez.  Let me know some other places that you’ve visited to that perhaps I haven’t gotten a chance to visit.  I’d love to know!

Let me know what are some of your favorite places that you’ve been to…

“What’s Funny About This?”

Well just got back to Dallas from a 12 day trip out to California and it was awesome.  Although I wish the weather would’ve been a bit better, I guess I shouldn’t be complaining giving the fact that there’s been several thunderstorms and bad weather here in Texas.

While out in California I attended one of the most incredible events I’ve been introduced to by my friends Matt Morris and Marc Accetta.  SANG is a notable event held yearly and organized by Larry Benet.  SANG which stands for Speakers, Authors & Networkers Group.  There have been so many amazing people who I’ve met through this event such as Tony Hseih from Zappos.com, Jeff Hayznett, Jack Canfield, Bryan Tracy, Mari Smith, Robin Sharma and so on…this year I was able to meet and hear from Sean Stephenson.  Now Sean is someone who not many people know…but they should!

Expected to die at birth, Sean Stephenson has faced many reasons to give up and countless opportunities to embrace pity.  He suffered more than 200 bone fractures by the age of 18, reached a height of only 3 ft., and is permanently confined to a wheelchair.  However he’s allowed his set backs to inspire millions around the world including Tony Robbins & Bill Clinton.  During his speech Sean said whenever we’re having a bad day or dealing with a tough situation, we should ask ourselves, “What’s Funny About This?”  So being that I’ve worked around Marc for close to 10 years now, I know plenty of positive mental exercises and how to think positively.  However sometimes I need new inspiration and I think Sean’s message hit the spot for what I was about to experience.

The SANG event had ended and I needed to go get my truck to pick up some equipment that was being used during the event.  Upon walking to where I had parked my truck 5 days prior and trust me I had been checking on it each evening to make sure there were not tickets and not towed.  And everything had been OK, until that day! I get to my truck and there’s a small car parked in its place that said…Parking Permit for The Hangover 2 Movie Premiere!  Yes! That is correct The Hangover 2 Movie Premiere crew had gotten my truck towed.  Now I am calling the numbers on the signs and no answer, just messages from the Mayor welcoming me to the city!  After 15 minutes of this, I become frustrated find a parking attendant and he says oh yeah…I saw them towing it around 3pm this afternoon.  You can go down Hollywood Pkwy about 6 blocks and your vehicle is there! That’s where they tow all the vehicles down here.  Now I know what you’re thinking Monico, why did you park in a Tow Away Zone…well I didn’t that’s just the spot that the hotel security & staff said I would be safe to park.  OK…so now I am walking about 6 blocks in Hollywood, while still on the phone and the Mayor welcoming me to Hollywood, by this time I am very irritated.  I finally find the place which was 10 blocks away not 6! I go up to the window and the man looks at me and says, “Oh yes we brought in your car about 4 hours ago…what do you want to do?”  What do I want to do, I want my truck back! So $380 later, he gives me my paperwork and says to wait by the gate to get my truck.  As I am waiting another guy comes and says come with me and takes me to a parking lot about 7 blocks away and as the gate opens there is my truck in the middle of all these other cars.  I feel a sense of relief as I get into my truck and start it and click…click…click! Yep my battery is dead! Here we go….the guy comes back and says do you need a jump!  I am saying to myself A JUMP! Really you’re asking me if I need a Jump! I answer calmly and politely yes…so he gives me a jump! I let my truck run for about 10 minutes.  As I leave the gated pound, I turn right, he turns left and leaves in a hurry and yep you guessed it…my truck dies AGAIN!

I am definitely not in my happy zone..in fact I even yelled out a couple of choice words!  At this point my emergency lights barely were blinking so I know it’s definitely a dead battery.  I remember passing an Auto Zone on the way walking to the towing place, however it’s now 8:58pm and as many of you know most car part places close at 9pm.  So I now call my girlfriend, Melinda which is supposed to be having a girls night out with her friend from high school.  So now they come over from being out on Rodeo Dr. & site seeing!  I know I am a bad boyfriend for pulling them away from Rodeo Dr.   While waiting for them to come I had also called my friend Mike Putman, which was able to get the Hollywood Parking Police to allow me to leave my truck there overnight and I could get a new battery in the morning.  So they finally arrive and the lady says oh wow…you’re parked in LA county…we only have permission over Hollywood! So I am asking well where is Hollywood?  She looks at me with a straight face and says oh it’s right over there across the street.  She was pointing literally at the other end of the street, not down the road, down the block or anything but literally about 15 steps away.  LOL…I kinda laugh out loud and say ok can you give me a jump so that I can at least turn my truck long enough to turn it around.  She says well it’s a Hybrid car so they don’t have batteries….WOW REALLY…LOL.  Man oh Man I am getting taught a major lesson by the Hangover Crew about parking in their spots! LOL.

Finally Melinda gets to where I am at, I ask if it’s possible for them to go to a Wal-Mart and get me a battery!  I thought to myself I am asking her to leave Rodeo Dr. and go to Wal-Mart…LOL!  So her friend so politely looks for one and finds one about 30 minutes away but they close at midnight…it is now 11:20pm, so it’s a race against time.  They leave and I stay with my truck because aside from it not having any hazard lights, when the parking lady was there, she indicates to me that I am again parked in a Tow Away Zone…LOL! Shortly after midnight I get a text from Melinda saying…Got it, on our way back! I am finally thinking…God Thank YOU!  As soon as I say that, the thought comes to my mind about the security brace on the battery and if I have the tools to take it off! Yep you guessed it…I didn’t! I now have about 30 minutes to figure out a way to take off the battery bracket which holds the battery securely so that it doesn’t move around while driving! I am going through my entire truck looking for something…I find a crow bar and a rusty set of pliers! That’s what I am working with!  As soon as I look at the pliers, open the hood and shine the flashlight on the bolt.  The thought comes through my mind..“What’s Funny About This!”, so after that all the frustration and oh why me attitude and victim mentality just melted and went out the door!

Well needless to say I finally get the bolt off after about 40 minutes, get the new battery in there, truck starts immediately! As I was driving to the hotel to pick up my equipment, I thought man it’s about 1am, I sure could use a drink but everything’s closed.  Oh well, as I get up to my room what do I see on the desk a bottle of Absolut…Melinda said they had bought it thinking that we could all use a drink once I got everything resolved…right there I fell in love with her all over again!  How awesome & thoughtful is she that after ruining her girls night out night, she was still thinking about me and that I needed to wind down.

Had some drinks with my sweetie, her friend, relaxed and reflected on how lucky I am that mentally I am strong enough to not freak out when life throws you a couple of curve balls.  No matter how bad things may seem or how screwed up things might be going, you should take a step back and ask yourself…”What’s Funny About This?”  This is just something that I learned from Sean Stephenson during that week at SANG, however I have strong faith in God and know that God has a plan for everything!  So I never question, never complain, although sometimes I definitely feel like complaining and just being pissed off, I know that everything happens for a reason!

Enjoy the video of Sean’s Speech at SANG V…This is the same speech I watched….LIVE!

10 Tips for Fall Fitness from Livestrong.com

I’ve recently started using an online website at www.livestrong.com in order to keep on top of my calorie intake, as well as my Blood Pressure stats, and it’s been working great.  It has tons of everyday restaurants and foods that anyone would eat and allows you to see how much fat/protein/carbs you’re having on a daily basis.  It also lets you put in your exercise routines and allows you to just track everything in a easy and convenient way.  I’ve also started enjoying the site so much that I started looking around at some of the articles and found this one interesting.  Feel free to check it out and add your own tips on how you’ve managed to stay fit throughout the summer/autumn and into the wintertime.  Have a great day and enjoy the article by Rian Landers.

Autumn is a transitional time of year. The leaves on the trees change, it becomes darker earlier, and the temperatures cool down. It is a favorite time of year for many people. However, these same changes can also lead to stress for individuals who tend to fall off the health and fitness wagon during the transition. There are many enjoyable opportunities to remain fit, or even begin a fitness program in the fall that can work for everyone. Planning for seasonal changes, finding support from group exercise and embracing events and activities that the season has to offer are key factors in staying fit through the transition.

Take Advantage of Autumn Activities

Autumn group events like pumpkin picking, corn mazes, haunted trails, and building leaf piles are active options that can also be fun bonding experiences for family and friends. Organize a weekend trip or local get together with an autumn theme and plan to be active.

Get Involved in Community Events

With the fall season comes many holiday themed local fun runs and events. Look in the newspaper for Halloween runs, turkey trots and reindeer romps. According to a 1991 summary report by ERIC Digest, a specific goal such as a race to train for increases adherence to an exercise program. Signing up with friends or family will hold you accountable for completing the training.

Head to the Trails

Fall is one of the most beautiful times of year for getting outside. Grab a friend and find some local parks or trails to walk, run or ride a bike and take in the view of changing leaves.

Dress for the Weather

When weather gets cooler, it can deter people from going outside to workout. This problem can be mediated by wearing wind-shielding clothing and dressing in layers. Proper attire and accessories (hats, gloves, etc.) that cut down on bulk but still allow for warmth make outdoor fitness more enjoyable as the chill of fall approaches

Drink Water

Stay hydrated even when the temperatures cool down. People often feel less thirsty when it is not hot outside, but staying hydrated is just as important in the fall as it is when the sun a blazing down. When fall rolls around, remember to stay on top of your fluid intake to help with both exercise recovery and appetite control.

Drink Tea

Drink more tea to warm up for the cooler temperatures. Green tea and black tea contain antioxidants that help ward off diseases during flu season so you can remain healthy and active as the season shifts.

Avoid Holiday Candy

According to the National Institutes of Health, on average, non-obese adults gain about a pound a year around the holidays. In addition to creating unhealthy habits, accumulation of this weight over time can lead to obesity. Be sure to pack lots of healthy snacks to munch on throughout the day to help deter you from grazing on sweets that pop up in the office, at home or at holiday parties.

Turn Fall Chores into a Workout

Raking leaves or gardening can burn around 150 calories every 30 minutes. Turn these chores into a game by setting small, achievable goals to help pass time and burn away fat.

Exercise Early in the Day

Try to work out in the morning or during the day. With the time changing and it becoming darker earlier, it can feel as if it is later in the day than it really is. This can make people more tired than usual. Getting into a routine of working out early will guarantee the workout gets done and still allow time in the afternoons and evenings to relax.

Vary Activities

As the weather cools down and summer ends, it can become difficult to stay motivated. Trying a variety of different activities and varying workouts, will help keep a fresh spin on exercise and allow for confidence to build within a wide range of activities.

We’ve just kicked off an amazing weekend in Las Vegas, NV with one of my good friends Gabe Shirey.  I met Gabe about 4 years ago at one of the week long training programs that Marc Accetta does called, Journey Beyond the Edge.  Gabe was an attendee at this seminar looking for an opportunity to just recreate himself and build a successful life.  Ever since then we’ve stayed friends and communicate via email, or online and here and there in person.  Recently I ran into Gabe in Los Angeles, CA at a Networking Seminar and WOW, has he recreated himself in a huge way.  For any of you that have attended Journey in the past, and know about the goal section.  Gabe still to this day has his very first goal cards that he created 4 years ago at Journey and carries them around with him and swears that he owes a lot of his recreation and success to Marc Accetta and that goal setting section during Journey.  It’s so awesome to see someone that has gone through one of Marc’s seminars and has been able to apply the skills and tools that Marc teaches and uses them to create massive success in their lives and now Gabe will turn around and give that back and create success in other lives out there.

NBC pulls Tony Robbins reality show!

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – After two episodes, NBC is feeling motivated to yank Tony Robbins’ reality show from its summer schedule.

Effective next week, NBC will air repeats of game show “Minute to Win It” in the Tuesday-night slot instead of “Breakthrough with Tony Robbins.”

Tony Robbins

While critics gave Robbins’ show props for trying to help real people solve tough challenges, audiences didn’t show up; the most recent episode generating only 2.8 million viewers.

It’s not yet clear if the remaining four episodes will be available online.

JUST ANOTHER CLEAR INDICATION THAT ALL OF THESE BIG WIG TV STATIONS ARE MORE CONCERNED WITH VIEWERS AND NUMBERS AND MONEY INSTEAD OF ENHANCING PEOPLE’S LIVES!

A HUGE thumbs down to NBC and it’s execs for this decision!

What’s sad in all this is that even after going to NBC’s website I couldn’t find any of the episodes.  I found them on HULU.com. http://www.hulu.com/breakthrough-with-tony-robbins

Make sure you visit HULU and search Tony Robbins Breakthrough and watch this incredible show with REAL people, creating REAL changes in their lives.

Told you, I am not crazy!

How Does Your Pet Keep You Healthy?, was the title of the article I recently read on The New York Times.  And it caught my attention because for several of you that know me and have followed me for a while, I never had imagined about having a pet.  Of course when I was small I had several pets or I guess just animals that would be hanging out at our house.  My first pet was a Doberman Pincher which he was awesome.  A tough, fast, lean, mean fighting machine until he got rabies and then it just pretty much was unsafe to have him around, not to mention that happened about the time when the movie, “KUJO” came out, which scarred the crap out of me.  Then I went from a mean machine to a soft, white, cute bunny rabbit that I cared for, fed and took care of until the summer of 4th grade when I went to visit my cousins and well lets just say that my mom didn’t have the same passion for the rabbit as I did and she did take him outside in his cage to feed him on grass, but then forgot to move his cage out of the direct sunlight and for those of you that have been in South Texas in the middle of summer, well my bunny died of heat stroke that summer.

I hadn’t had an actual pet until this past Valentine’s Day, when I thought it would be sweet to get Melinda, my girlfriend a kitty.  She’s always had cats in her life and loves them.  So we got a cute cat that we rescued and she let me name him.  Well on trying to find a tough, manly name for my small furball, I came up with, “GUINNESS”, and the rest is history.

Guinness Purrez

He is the most amazing cat that I could have ever wished for.  Initially I didn’t think we’d be fit for each other but now I am thinking that I got myself a Valentine’s Day gift instead of Melinda. LOL.  I make crazy videos with him, we talk, I’ve taught him to roll over and a couple of other tricks that will eventually get him on the big screen…OK you’re right maybe I am getting a little bit too over excited but I honestly feel that having a pet can definitely enhance your life.

I had always had a severe allergic reactions to cats which is one of the reasons I never had one before but in the past year I had started a regular acupuncture treatment for other health ailments that I had.  I found a great doctor that Marc had suggested to me that he had been using and had helped him out with various things.  So I thought what the heck let me give it a shot.  Well within my treatment I started to obviously feel a lot better, my high blood pressure lowered, I slowly started to lose weight and well when we got Guinness my allergies to cats that I once had were gone.  My eyes didn’t tear up, No more irritation it was incredible. I have had Guinness literally be right by my eyes and where over a year ago I would’ve immediately started tearing up and scratching my eyes out.  I have no problems at all anymore. If any of you want more information and are in the Dallas or Austin area please look up our doctor.  Her name is Dr. Laurie Powell.

I hope this story has perhaps made you think a bit more about perhaps getting a pet in your life or maybe valuing the one you have a bit more.  I’d love to hear or see any stories or videos that you’ve captured with your pet.  You’ll find the article below that inspired me to write this blog.

Here are some of my GUINNESS VIDEOS!

How Does Your Pet Keep You Healthy?

By TARA PARKER-POPE

Numerous studies show that pets are good for your health. Pet ownership may lower risk for heart problems. Others studies show dogs can sniff out health problems and even make better walking partners than humans.

Now we want you to help us document in video how dogs, cats and other companion animals can make life better and improve health. Do you dance with your cat? Play Frisbee with your dog? Sing with your bird? Send us your videos showing how your pets keep you healthy.

Once we’ve collected your video stories, we’ll post the results on the Well blog.
